What are the symptoms of blood clots?
The symptoms of deep-vein thrombosis can vary from very subtle to severe pain in the calf or thigh. Both legs are at rest and when walking, it can be pain. Depending on location, calf or thigh is swollen and warm. Some may also have the fever.

When a blood clot in the lung occurs quite abruptly chest pain. One is heavy breathing; the heartbeat and cough and bloody sputum may be applicable. When large blood clots one becomes cold, clammy and pale, the pulse becomes weak, blood pressure drops and you pass out in the end. Large pulmonary embolism can be life threatening.

How are long-term prospects?
If treatment is not given to pregnant women with deep-vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism will occur in 15-25% of them. Untreated, the mortality rate of pulmonary embolism up to 30% and 3-8% of patients do not survive pulmonary embolism despite treatment.

Of those treated with pulmonary embolism is 2/3 full recovery, while the last third is somewhat reduced blood flow and disturbed function of the lungs.

Some who have deep-vein thrombosis, suffer later with the post-thrombotic syndrome. This is characterized by heaviness sensation in the leg at rest or when walking, pain, swelling, varicose veins, skin discoloration, dermatitis and leg ulcers. Continuous use of individualized elastic stockings reduces the risk of developing such a syndrome in the wake of 50%.
