9 Great Reasons to Breastfeed

You are still breastfeeding your baby? Take advantage of the global week of breastfeeding toured the main reasons why breastfeeding is so good!

A few years ago, the Canadian Paediatric Society has revised upwards the period during which exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for full-term babies who are healthy. Until then, as Health Canada recommended a period of "4-6 months," whereas now it is six-month firm in question.

This is evidence of the benefits of breastfeeding accumulate and show that the longer the child is breast fed, the better the protection against infections. Breast milk contains antibodies that help babies avoid disease and fight against them.

The Canadian Paediatric Society made this recommendation because, according to figures from Statistics Canada, 85% of mothers breastfeed their newborns, but only 19% do so exclusively until the age of six months.

A breastfeeding mother of five stops after a few days, weeks, months for reasons as numerous as entirely valid. The important thing is to have tried the experiment, giving the best of yourself for the time you have.

If you are unsure and looking for arguments in favor of breastfeeding, here are a few.

1. A complete food

The infant formula had beautiful baby satisfy hunger; they do not compare with the milk. To take a simple example that everyone can check for themselves: the difference between the stools of a breast-fed baby and that of a baby who is given infant formula is striking in texture, color and ... quantity. The first stools are less abundant than the second because almost all the component of milk is used by the baby's body, so that there is not much to remove. In the case of commercial milk, as its chemical composition, the digestive system rejects a good part in the stool.

2. Health food by excellence

Breast milk is recognized throughout the world for its immune qualities. It contains antibodies that strengthen the immune system is very weak at birth. That does not mean that baby will never be sick, but it will surely less often and long as a baby is not breast fed.

3. Always ready

Breast milk is regularly fresh and at the accurate temperature, it has an ideal consistency, neither too thick nor as well light, and it always contains the right amount of nutrients needed by the baby's development. Whether you're at home or traveling, you do not have to look far to feed! Which, especially at night, is a considerable advantage.

4. Automatic process

You have nothing, in particular, to do to produce milk. Immediately, after birth, the process gets underway and naturally, the first feeding, the body gets the signal to produce milk. More frequent feedings will be, the more the body will produce milk. You cannot be out of stock when breastfeeding is regular.

5. Emotional reconciliation

It is also recognized that the nursing mother develops a relationship of particular intimacy with her baby. This does not mean that the mother does not breastfeed does not love her child as much as that breastfeeding, but regular contact skin to skin on the mother's body react to each feeding, the fact that mother and children are in repeated contact inevitably leads to a relationship of affection, peace and complicity between the two.

6. Food economy

Of course, you do not breastfeed only in order to save the cost of infant formula, but it is true that breastfeeding can make substantial savings.

7. Weight loss increased

Breastfeeding facilitates weight loss in the mother because it taps into fat reserves accumulated during pregnancy. When you are breastfeeding, you should absorb about 500 calories more per day, but the body burns 940 calories for every liter of milk it produces. Weight loss, about one kilo per month will be slow but steady.

8. Savings in health care

Since breast-fed babies have fewer ear infections, colic, intestinal or respiratory problems because their immune system is strengthened, the economy in health care is real. In fact, it is argued that even if 60% of babies were breast fed for three months would save five million in medical expenses. So if we continue up to six months, we can easily imagine the effect on our health care system!

9. Consequences of global

It is estimated that the global increase of only 8% of exclusive breastfeeding up to six months helped prevent a million cases of infant mortality, reduce six hundred thousand cases of fertility problems and save countries billions of dollars of unnecessary formula.

To be honest, it should be noted that breastfeeding is not without sacrifices. The mother is constantly solicited: breast milk is easy to digest (about 1:30) that breast-fed baby will drink more often a baby receiving infant formula, on average every two to three hours, then eight to twelve times per day.

Mom sleep less because it is difficult to ask Dad to take over, not much alcohol, too much coffee ... Also, do not forget that breast-fed infants should receive daily supplements of vitamin D until that their diet provides sufficient.

It is up to each to weigh the pros and cons, to assess its ability to live peacefully this involvement and time decide that the last adventure. If for whatever reason you cannot do it, and you are stressed, you will pass your nervousness baby who refuses to cooperate. However, rest assured that all the milk you give your baby worth weight in gold no pill or any commercial milk can provide.
