So called because of the lashes they evoke, stretch marks are actually scars in the dermis, the deeper part of the skin.
Contrary to popular belief, stretch marks are not only the result of upward pressure on the skin. "We must stop thinking that stretch marks are a break in the skin. Being fat is not going to break the dermis, "says dermatologist Anny Cohen-Letessier.
Several circumstances concur in (contribute to the appearance of stretch marks), and everyone is not exposed in the same way.
Origins of Stretch Marks
These unsightly streaks appear when fibroblasts (dermal cells) are heckled and can not ensure the production of collagen: an elastic fiber that gives skin its flexibility and strength.
The collagen fibers destructure and break and are not replaced, resulting in skin surface ridges first pink. Once the inflammatory phase has passed, the stretch marks become white.
Often found stretch marks on the breasts, abdomen, hips, inner thighs, buttocks, but all growth areas, such as members or shoulders among sportsmen.

When the body produces too much cortisol, especially during puberty or pregnancy. Fibroblast proliferation is then blocked and collagen production falls in proportion.
Hormonal diseases
"Some hormonal diseases such as Cushing's syndrome (overproduction of cortisol) may be the cause of stretch marks," says Dr. Anny Cohen-Letessier.
Topical
"The topical (applied topically) containing corticosteroids (cortisone and its derivatives) also damaged the skin, especially when used on sensitive areas like the armpits.
Skin whitening creams
The inappropriate use, prolonged and inappropriate creams for skin whitening is also often responsible for significant stretch marks, "she says.
Stretch fast and brutal
