What are the symptoms and signs Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia ARVD?

ARVD occurs most often in young or middle-aged men. Because of the condition increasing progression, patients can present a variety of symptoms. Palpitations, fatigue and fainting seem to be the most frequent symptoms, but patients may also have other nonspecific symptoms such as abdominal pain and mental confusion in some cases, cardiac arrest after physical exertion, e.g. through participation in sports. Familial occurrence of sudden cardiac death or death at a young age should cause suspicion of ARVD.

What is the prognosis?
ARVD is a chronic disease in which heart muscle is increasingly damaged and weakened. The fact that the disease can cause sudden cardiac death in young athletes, or it is discovered that randomly at autopsy of older people, illustrate the unpredictable course of the disease. Although many studies have shown a favorable long-term prognosis in properly treated patients, there are few good long-term studies to show whether the course of ARVD swayed.
