When to seek medical help?
Acute pulmonary edema is a life-threatening condition. Call for help immediately (call 113) if you have any of the following signs:
- Great difficulty breathing and feeling of wanting to choke
- Bubbling, wheezing or gasping sound when breathing
- Pink, frothy saliva when you cough.
- Strong cold sweat and pale skin
- Dizziness
Can acute pulmonary edema prevent?
Acute pulmonary edema can, as a rule do not prevent; however, since heart disease is the most frequent cause of pulmonic edema, the following important measures to reduce your risk for future pulmonary edema:
- Controlling blood pressure
- Managing a high cholesterol
- Do not smoke.
- Eat a healthy diet
- Be a little careful with the salt
- Exercising regularly
- Avoid excess weight
- Try to reduce stress
